In keeping with the state of Cross State as the preferred tourist destination in Nigeria, the State Ministry of Health, has set up a people-oriented health service, and is building a vibrant health tourism sector which includes on emergency ambulance service that has successfully covered several tourism events including the Christmas Festival, the Calabar Carnival, and Obudu International Mountain Race, in addition to ensuring patient safety at public civic events.
A massive health improvement programmed is under way affecting infrastructure, equipment provision and staff re-orientation. This is in keeping with the Motto of the Ministry: ‘Protecting Patients whilst Supporting Health Practitioners’ to provide a professionally run patient care, good enough for the leaders and ordinary members of the population, near to where they live and work and whenever the need care.
